It is a fact that menopause is something that women will go though once they reach a certain age. During their late 40s, women experience this condition where their system will stop producing hormones. It is also a fact that menopause is often associated with women and few realize that it is also a condition where there is also a male counterpart of the menopause.

You may not know it but both male and female go through menopause. You may know about females going through menopause, but males going through the same condition are not really known and are still being debated as to the accuracy of the research.

The male menopause is caused by the decrease of the male’s body capability to produce testosterone. Because of this, the signs and symptoms of male menopause can be compared closely to its female counterpart. Males who are going through this condition will experience getting depressed, irritable, and always getting tired or fatigued even with minimum movements such as walking from the front yard and back to the house.

Another symptom that you will see in a man who is going through male menopause is sexual disinterest. Because of this, it may affect his relationship with his spouse. It is known that many people who went through this stage in life have had problems with their marriage because of sexual disinterest.

This is why it is important for males and their wives to take all the necessary steps in treating this condition. Although male menopause occurs naturally once a man reaches a certain age, there are steps that couples can take to minimize the effects of male menopause.

Since one of the main causes of male menopause is the decrease of testosterone, the best way to treat or at least minimize the effects of the symptoms associated with male menopause is through testosterone replacement therapy. Through this therapy, you will be able to decrease the effects of symptoms, such as decreased interest in sex, depression and constant tiredness.

Because of this, you will be able to maximize your libido even if you are going through the condition of male menopause. This will significantly improve your sex life and also your social life with your partner. Through testosterone replacement therapy, not only will you be sexually active, but you can also improve your relationship with the people around you.

It is a fact that being irritable can cause a strain in your relationship with other people. By testosterone replacement therapy, you will be able to enjoy life once again, and decrease the risk of straining your relationship with other people.

Enjoy your manhood through testosterone replacement therapy. With this therapy, you will be able to cope up with male menopause and become a man again.

So, if you are ever experiencing what people call mid-life crisis, it is maybe because you are experiencing male menopause. You should always remember that menopause doesn’t only occur on women, but it also occurs on the male population as well. You should also remember that this condition is natural and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The only thing you can do is minimize the symptoms through a therapy called testosterone replacement therapy or TRT. However, before you undergo TRT, you should always keep in mind that you should first consult your doctor. He or she will be able to recommend a clinic specializing in TRT with trained professionals to look after you.

Today, more than ever, people are playing many sports. Unfortunately, many people get injured each day playing sports whether it is a professional or amateur sport. Sports massage therapy can not only help an athlete who are injured, but is also great to help athletes keep toned and in shape to prevent injuries. Sports massage therapy can also help athletes psychologically as well as physically.

Athletes of today are recognizing that massage is an important part of getting them healthy and keeping them that way. Most professional teams employ sports massage therapists to help those that have been injured so they can make a quicker recovery, but also to help their athletes perform in their peak condition. As little as 10 to 15 minutes of pre and post event massage can help the muscles and tissues of an athlete perform better and avoid injury.

Why is it important for therapist to practice sports massage? It helps the body maintain a generally better condition, helps prevent injury and helps maintain mobility and flexibility, it can restore lost mobility, it can boost the performance of an athlete, it can reduce back pain; a common complaint among athletes of all kinds and it can help to extend the career of an athlete by helping keep them in better condition. Sports massage can help those who suffer from neck pain too. Most athletes use their backs and necks every time their play their sport, so these two areas are especially susceptible to injury.

Learning to be a sports massage therapist can be a very lucrative and rewarding career. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping heal others, you may also be able to make a good living at it. Sports massage therapy is one of the fastest growing fields in the market today.

If you are thinking of a career in sports massage therapy, you will want to pick a school that offers great courses. Depending on your philosophy, you may want to find a course that focuses more on the traditional medicine area or the holistic appraoch. Some sports massage therapists blend the two areas to give clients the best of both worlds. Ask if the course includes such therapies as structural and postural evaluation, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, stretching or remedial tissue massage.

Be sure to ask if there is any type of certification, diploma, or accreditation that comes along with the completion of the course. It is always good to be certified – that gives you an edge up when looking for a job over the sports massage therapists that are not certified. Check to see what, if any, certifications the instructor holds. Find out his or her credentials so see if this is the sports massage therapy course for you. It is important that your instructor be not only well qualified, but also experienced. Of course cost is often a concern, but remembers that to take a sports massage therapy class that will result in the right qualification and with the right ongoing mentoring and employment opportunties, you may have to be willing to pay more money.

By: Ashish Bhattacharya
Spa treatments are the only methods that soothe, rejuvenate and revitalize the body, soul and spirit. There are many ancient and modern methods of spa treatments. In this article series we will explore the most delicious and beneficial ones.

Thalassotherapy

Thalassotherapy is from the Greek word thalassos, meaning "sea" It is the therapeutic use of seawater to treat various diseases. It is said that trace elements of magnesium, potassium, calcium sulphates and sodium, found in seawater, are absorbed through the skin providing medical benefits to the user. Seawater, seaweed, algae, mud and sand are all key ingredients of Thalassotherapy. Thalassotherapy is always done on the coast as sea water loses its healing quality quickly after being stored. So it is best to go to a spa near the sea to enjoy the benefits of Thalassotherapy.

The health benefits of pure sea water have been proven over hundreds of years. Mud baths, underwater showers, hydro-massage, aromatherapy, and seaweed, mud and algae wraps are all used in Thalassotherapy to revitalize and improve circulation of the body. The different forms are used according to the disease and patient temperament. Thalassotherapy has been found to help patients suffering from hypertension, arteriosclerosis, asthma, bronchitis, muscle atrophy, rheumatic arthritis, weight loss, cellulite reduction, post-natal toning, back problems, water retention, depression and sleeping disorders.

Types of Thalassotherapy

There are many different kinds of Thalassotherapy, mainlyIonization- In this the seawater is ionized with negative ions and is then inhaled or sprayed. This is a wonderful method for those suffering from upper respiratory tract problems.

Hydro massage- In this massage is preformed with the patient and masseuse inside the water in a tub or pool.

Balneotherapy- underwater massages where jets of water are used.

Vinothrapie- a combination of thermal spring water, indigo-elements with wine and grape extracts are mixed into Seaweed, mud or algae wraps. This method helps to strength blood vessels and encourages circulation

Balneotherapy-water-based seaweed, mud or algae therapies that use seawater or thermal spring water. This tremendously improves circulation.

Massages

Massages are an ancient method used for centuries to treat pains, injuries and disease. In a massage structured or unstructured pressure is applied, manually with the hands or feet or with aids.

The health benefits of massage are relaxing and improved circulation. They are especially beneficial for pain management and stress management.

Types of massages

There are many different massages, originating from all over the world

Ayurvedic

Abhyanga Massage- Abhyanga is performed by two masseuses working in tandem, using a heated blend of specially selected herbal oils. This massage originated in India.

Barefoot Deep Tissue – Barefoot Deep Tissue is a blend of Eastern barefoot techniques with Western manual medicine. Massage is applied by the masseuse’s feet and no oils are used.

Deep tissue massage- Deep tissue techniques are intended for more focused massage work. Specific joint, muscle or muscle group, are accessed through the deeper layers of the soft tissue.

Foot or sole massage- Foot massage is practiced by the Chinese who believe that each spot on the sole of the foot corresponds to an internal organ. The ailments are healed when the aching spots of the sole are treated by massage.

Hot Stone Massage – is done by using particular stones. The heat of the stones is great for stress reduction. The hardness of the stones allows the masseuse to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure. Neuromuscular therapy- Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is used for pain relief and precise problems. NMT reduces pain, tension, postural imbalance, and lengthens and strengthens tissues.

By: Annalisa Zisman
Massage therapy has been used for thousands of years to help relax and calm people as well as offer physical healing. Neuromuscular therapy is used to relieve pain and specific problems a patient is experiencing. It is used to focus pressure on certain areas of skeletal muscle and can reduce pain and tension, but also help balance your posture and lengthen as well as strengthen tissues. These areas are often myofascial trigger points. Myofasical trigger points are hyperirritable spots located within skeletal muscle. These spots are associated with nodules of bands of muscle fibers. These nodules become small contracture knots and therefore cause pain to the patient. By focusing on these points with neuromuscular therapy, a massage therapist with the right training can help decrease the contractions and this help relieve the pain. It is a great therapy to assess, treat, and help prevent soft tissue injuries and thus relieve chronic pain. Neuromuscular therapy is often used by occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, chiropractors, and those that practice osteopathic and physical medicine.

The technique of neuromuscular therapy (sometimes referred to as NMT) was developed by Dr. Stanley Leif and Boris Chaitow. Both were trained in chiropractics and naturopathy, which is a philosophy that seeks to improve health by focusing on the body’s innate ability to recover. They worked with Dewanchand Varma and Bernard MacFadden to help develop neuromuscular therapy in order to help patients suffering from soft tissue dysfunction. One part of neuromuscular therapy focuses on the fact that the body can heal itself. Stimulation from neuromuscular therapy can help hasten the natural healing process.

A neuromuscular therapist takes into account many aspects of the patient before beginning therapy. Things like age, stress, prior therapy, family history, diet, and nutrition will be looked at. By looking at the patient’s history and health, they can ascertain what type or how much therapy is needed. They may work with the patient’s primary physician if certain conditions exist. For example, if an elderly woman with a calcium deficient diet had hip or lower back pain; the therapist will need to watch for possible osteoporosis or hip fractures. They may need to alter their procedures to accommodate such patients. They will also look at posture distortion to see what other pains that can be causing.

The therapist will use their thumbs, fingers, and elbows as well as pressure bars during the massage. The pressure bars help release the muscular contractions. One good thing about neuromuscular therapy is it concentrates on placement much more than degree of pressure, so a good deal of pressure is not normally necessary.

Who can be helped by neuromuscular therapy? Anyone that suffers from chronic pain can be helped by neuromuscular massage. Whether you have chronic pain due to an occupational injury, a sports injury, or an automobile injury, if you suffer from chronic pain, you may want to give neuromuscular therapy a try. Others that respond well to neuromuscular therapy are those that suffer from sciatica, rotator cuff dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and even migraine headaches.

By: Andy West
When they first hear about magnetic therapy, most people think that it’s something relatively new and aren’t sure that they can trust such a “New Age” or alternative treatment. They may be surprised to learn that magnetic therapy has actually been used for thousands of years in cultures around the world for everything from treating wounds to staying young. In fact, magnets therapeutic effects have been recognized for centuries and had only recently fallen out of favor before being rediscovered for their amazing health promoting and pain relieving properties in the last few decades.

Magnetic Therapy in Ancient Times

Thousands of years ago, the Ancient Egyptians recognized the healing power of magnets and used them in a variety of ways. Although the specific ways they used them for medicinal or healing purposes have been lost through the ages, we do know that Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, felt that magnets influenced blood flow and the flow of energy in the blood. She was so sure of their influence on the body that her famous crown held a magnet in what was referred to as the “third eye” in the center over her forehead.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle also referred to the healing power of magnets, noting that many different cultures used them to treat wounds during war time.

In the Orient, magnets have been used in conjunction with acupuncture for thousands of years. By magnetizing the thin, flexible acupuncture needles that are inserted into the skin during an acupuncture session, the flow of qi, or energy, in the human body is affected more strongly and the blood flow beneath the skin is increased. Relaxation is also enhanced when magnetic therapy is used in conjunction with acupuncture.

The Beginning of Modern Medicine

Paracelsus is often hailed as the father of modern medicine. During the early 1500’s, this European philosopher, scientist and doctor traveled to various countries studying the way illnesses worked and determined that the accepted theory of the day – that the four “humors” of the body being out of balance caused illness – was wrong. He argued that there were external substances that had to be affecting individuals that caused disturbances in the human body. It was the birth of the concept of disease caused by germs or any other outside factor. Paracelsus also recognized that magnets with enough force also affected the life force or energy in the human body. He developed a variety of medicinal cures for many illnesses, including many that combined the use of herbal and mineral medicines and the application of magnets for discomfort or to promote healing.

During Queen Elizabeth I’s reign, her court physician, William Gilbert, published a famous book on magnetism called, “De Magnete,” in which he discussed magnetic therapy at length. He talked about how magnets worked, the differences between magnetism and electricity and was the first person to explain that the earth was a giant magnet. In one chapter, he discussed the importance of magnets as an aid in “curing many diseases.”

The popularity of magnetic therapy continued unabated through the Civil War years. Medical journals and textbooks at the major medical colleges all referred to the effectiveness of magnetic therapy for pain, inflammation, arthritis, headaches, cramping and a variety of other conditions. You could order many different types of therapeutic magnets through trusted mail order catalogues like Sears and Roebuck.

Magnetic Therapy Today

Unfortunately, as pharmaceuticals rose in favor in the second half of the 1900’s, many doctors began to question the effectiveness of magnetic therapy and pharmaceutical companies encouraged this. Soon magnets lost their popularity as a treatment in the United States. However, this wasn’t the case in many other areas – in fact, in more than fifty countries today’s magnetic therapy is now an officially approved therapy for a variety of diseases.

Fortunately, in the last few decades magnetic therapy has seen a resurgence in interest from the medical community. The MRI was a ground-breaking diagnostic imaging tool that relied on magnetism that reawakened physicians’ interest in the possibilities of magnets for therapeutic uses as well. In dozens of independent studies have proven the efficacy of properly used magnets for reducing pain and inflammation. The key is finding a reputable company that produces medical grade magnets developed in a University Medical Center or some other recognized authoritative research environment. Research their results and carefully read any literature on how their products work and what results you can expect – look for honest answers and realistic advice.

With the renewed interest in magnetic therapy around the world and thousands of years of results, magnetic pain management seems to be here to stay. With no side effects and easy use, this is a definite step forward for millions who suffer from daily or recurrent pain.

By: Steven Parbach
Find Massage Therapy Certification programs in the United States and Canada. Earning massage therapy certification is an essential step in advancing your professional bodywork career. Because state requirements vary, formal education is the key to gaining eligibility to sit for both state and/or national massage therapy certification exams.

Depending in which region you reside, massage therapy certification can be earned upon successful completion of a quality massage therapy program. Generally, basic massage training entails studies in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, body mechanics, and various massage techniques. In some advanced massage therapy certification programs, however, students gain knowledge and hands-on training in a wider range of massage modalities including acupressure, meridian therapy, medical massage, geriatric massage, lymph drainage, myofascial release therapy, craniosacral therapy, among others.

Massage therapy certification programs give students hands-on experience in clinical environments – for example, a number of massage therapy colleges and schools provide open clinics to the public where students can gain practical training (with instructor supervision) on clients. Some of the diverse therapies that students administer in these clinics include reflexology, sports massage, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, chair/corporate massage and more.

In addition to actual career training, students enrolled in massage therapy certification programs will sometimes learn about CPR and first aid, business management and communication skills, herbal medicine studies, aromatherapy and essential oils, and other relative subject matter.

While most massage therapy certification programs are on a local level, national massage therapy certification* can be attained through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) – eligibility requirements for this exam consist of a minimum of 500 hours training from a state-licensed school. Practicing massage therapists retain this massage therapy certification for four years. At the end of the four-year time frame, massage therapists must complete a minimal of 200 hours of therapeutic massage and 125 hours of associated studies. (*National certification requirements and governing boards vary in Canadian Provinces.)

Graduates of an accredited massage therapy school or college, who have earned massage therapy certification, (either State or National levels), can expect positive job prospects* as the field of massage therapy is expected to increase faster than other jobs in ensuing years. (*U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding massage therapy certification programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.

Dry skin therapy works and manufacturers are constantly improving their products to meet this need. Some of the ingredients you will find in the best products are listed with what they can do for you. My research has shown the value of natural products.

By: Robin Newsome
istake about it, dry skin therapy works. Skin care manufacturers are turning out products to fill this need for dry skin remedies. Many of these companies are finding out that natural products that are effective are what people are demanding. These products also are safer than the traditional over the counter highly advertised creams and oils. Antioxidants are effective in lessening deep lines and wrinkling. They are found in many products available today. Natural herbal oils that along with vitamin E and C combine to generate skin healing and actual decreasing of the signs of age. These will naturally moisturize your skin. Dry skin therapy also should include proteins and enzymes that will cause the skin to naturally produce collagen. Collagen is an ingredient in many products but this is wasteful as the skin’s pores can’t absorb collagen. The ingredients that cause the natural production of collagen are effective. Collagen is important for toning of the skin and can greatly reduce those deep lines on the face. Skin is a very sensitive body part and the bottom line is dry skin remedies must be not irritating. Synthetic chemicals, fragrances and alcohol can be really rough on this most sensitive of organs. Exfoliating is critical in a program of skin care therapy. This process enables you to get rid of dead skin. This dead skin contains old cells that can cause ugly scales to form. Exfoliating along with a natural herbal type of moisturizer will keep the skin free from scaling. Dry skin remedies include natural organic, therapeutic oils. These oils help the skin naturally absorb and lock in moisture. The best oils do not have an oily feel to them and have a slight, more natural fragrance. Many common products contain perfumes that are very irritating and possibly toxic to the skin. You are much better off if you use perfume to just dab it on separately from your facial cream or lotion. My research has shown that natural products that are specifically targeted to dry skin work the best. They are safe, non toxic and more effective than the product containing synthetic chemicals. I want your face to glow and have your friends notice how great you look.
